Characters used for Changes
There is an issue with the character ¦ which is used to mark 'other changes in the entry' for the change column.
this character isn't on a Windows or a Mac keyboard natively, however | is.
To type the ¦ we have to do the following:
The character you showed is the Broken Bar (¦), Unicode U+00A6.
Here’s how to type it:
Windows
• Using Alt code (numeric keypad required):
• Hold Alt and type 0166
• → ¦
(Alt+166 may also work on some systems)
• Alternative
• Open Character Map
• Find Broken Bar (¦) and copy it
⸻
macOS
macOS doesn’t have a direct key, but you can type it with Unicode input:
1. Go to System Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources
2. Add Unicode Hex Input
3. Switch to it (menu bar input selector)
4. Hold Option and type 00A6
• → ¦
Or open Edit → Emoji & Symbols (Character Viewer) and insert Broken Bar.
So the question is is this an appropriate character to use in the UNLOCODE directory?
The wider question is rather than populating a change field should we in the change logs show whats been added, modified and deleted, and in the publication outputs just show the current list with modification and additions and remove the deletions, this would be more seamless to integrate for users of the code list.
To raise with Secretariat.
